Mesmerizing Views

“This house lived up to its billing and then some. The view of the Pacific is just mesmerizing. The photos of the house in the listing do not try to oversell anything, they don't have to. The location is great, just minutes away from just about anything. The views are wonderful. And the house itself - as far as amenities, you'll have everything you need. Plenty of sheets and towels, the beds are comfortable, the kitchen is very well equipped with quality cookware, dishes, utensils, etc. The house is well furnished, with plenty of seating for dining and just relaxing. Nancy and Gary were exceptional hosts and gave us some great advice for shopping, site seeing, restaurants, and local natural areas for bird and wildlife viewing. Not to mention that they are just great people. We were there from mid-Sep to mid-Oct. On many a day we never left the house, sitting on the deck watching for whale spouts, which we saw on a regular basis. (Hint - bring your binoculars. What looks like a big splash with unaided eye may reveal a whale leaping out of the water or tail slapping when viewed with binoculars, or with the host's telescope on the deck.) We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and recommend it without hesitation.”

  • Gary and Nancy were wonderful hosts. Gary provided a list of things to do in the area and recommended some great restaurants via email which was so helpful. It helped create our agenda for our stay. As my family and I arrived to the location, we were greeted by Nancy who was very welcoming. She even made THE CUTEST welcome sign which I took home because it was so cute. The following day, I met Gary who was just as nice over the phone as he was in-person. Their home is overlooking the beach and is in a prime location; close to the beach, restaurants, stores, and trails. Their home is spacious and fully stocked with all the necessities (i.e., towels, blankets, shampoo, condition, lotion, games for the family, kitchenware, etc.). Although they live upstairs, it is as if they are not even there. You can call them for anything and they are VERY responsive. My family and I enjoyed our stay very much! I see more trips to their lovely home in my future! GREAT STAY and would love to go back!!

  • I can't say enough good things about our stay here. Initial communication was superb and included excellent directions (with photos) from SFO as well as great information about the surrounding areas. We stayed in touch with Gary as we were delayed, and he met us as we pulled in. Everything about this place is well thought out with a great flair for fun decor. The highlight, of course, were the floor to ceiling glass doors that face the ocean. Everything was explained well by Gary and he talked about some great local attractions and restaurants. We used his directions to have a fun drive through the redwoods one day. We ate breakfast every morning at The Press the next town south. Beds were heavenly, steam shower was a nice addition and the place was very clean. The views alone are worth it. Thanks, Gary and Nancy!

  • Incredible Property Right on the Montara Coast Our family stayed at Nancy and Gary's house in late July and we loved everything about it. The home is as spectacular as the pictures show with plenty of room even for large groups. We really enjoyed hanging out on the deck and watching and listening to the waves. Nancy and Gary were very accommodating and easy to get a hold of when we needed anything. Gary had multiple great suggestions for us to help our son see evidence of the San Andreas fault and Nancy found a wet suit that our daughter could use in the ocean. Not only does the home have everything, it is incredibly convenient to San Francisco, Half Moon Bay and the airport. It was great getting off the plane and being at the house in 20 minutes but feeling a world away. Don't miss the tide pools about a mile south of the house!

  • We would like to thank Nancy and Gary for the time we could be in their beautiful house overlooking the ocean. This view is a scenic as it gets with waves breaking over the rocks, lighthouse flashing at night and pelicans hovering over the water. The place has everything we could possibly need - from a modern kitchen to beautiful art on the walls. While appearing to be at the very end of land, it is literally minutes from civilization. We appreciate our friendly and welcoming hosts. Hosts who made this past weekend getaway a very pleasant experience. Property: Very clean, decorated with taste and well maintained.   • Peaceful and Great for a Group Other VRBOs I've stayed at have the bare minimum but Nancy and Gary's home had everything we needed that made us feel like it was our home away from home. The views are amazing and morning coffee with friends overlooking the ocean was our highlight. The entire living area has amazing views and plenty of space for our group to gather. Nancy and Gary were great hosts and I was surprised that we didn't hear anything from upstairs at all. The location is perfect, close enough to Half Moon Bay and Pacifica for a quick run to a major store if needed, but Montara is quiet and peaceful.

  • Our group of 4 moms needed a weekend off and this ocean view home was the perfect getaway! We were greeted with a beautiful custom-made welcome sign and Gary met us to give us the key and a tour and to answer any of our questions. The home was clean, quiet and peaceful and we spent most of our time on the deck watching the waves and chatting. The house had everything we needed and Half Moon Bay is so beautiful! Would love to visit again sometime!

  • The property is immaculate and the views cannot be described. The house has more than enough room and extra amenities as in steam shower, massage chair and gas fireplace! The owners stayed in contact welcomed us with a personal sign and recommended numerous local restaurants. The experience could not have been better. Well if we would have been able to stay longer perhaps!

  • Beautiful home with a magnificent view! Our family had a lovely time at this property. Nancy and Gary were warm and welcoming hosts who made sure we had a comfortable vacation and all our needs were taken care of (down to the beach toys for the kids!) We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect setting for our Thanksgiving meal. From the kitchen to the amazing ocean views from the dinner table. It was a dream! We will definitely miss waking up and falling asleep to the sounds of the ocean.

  • Million dollar view! We spent a family gathering here to celebrate my mom’s 88th birthday. What a beautiful view! My siblings don’t live in California, and they were blown away by the view we got right in the backyard. The kitchen and dining area is nice and open, and we comfortably enjoyed a “home” cooked meal together overlooking the ocean. The owners were accommodating and very responsive to any requests we had. This definitely had a homey feel, as opposed to staying at a hotel. Would recommend for a weekend getaway—thank you Nancy and Gary!

  • This was our best experience yet. Gary and Nancy were gracious, thoughtful hosts who accommodated a last minute reservation. They are well prepared and responsive. Their home is an absolute gem. It was very clean, the bedding was extra nice, the kitchen was such a treat—it had everything, and the view was majestic.   • We stayed with our two young children, mother, brother and niece. Gary and Nancy were great hosts and ensured that we were comfortable and familiar with the area. The house is in a fantastic location for local activities and only 30 minutes from SFO and SF activities. We stayed for one week, attended a wedding, Muir woods, Monterey Bay, the city, beaches and still did not get to do everything that we planned. We plan to go back soon!

  • Spacious and beautiful view! Lots of room for our family of four. Would book again and be satisfied. Easy and fast responses from owners. The house is eclectic and cozy! The pictures don’t do the home justice! The views are incredible!! My daughters loved the whole house and were excited that they had a room to themselves. They fought over who got to stay in the ‘cottage’! My husband and I felt so comfortable! The beds were very comfortable and we slept very well.

  • A beautiful place for a getaway! We were a group of ladies celebrating a 60th birthday. We only had one night - wish we could have stayed longer. The stunning view of the ocean was almost overwhelming. We sat on the balcony for hours enjoying drinks and snacks while watching the waves. We even saw a few whales. Sunset was gorgeous. We finally came inside and fixed a great dinner in the beautiful kitchen and enjoyed sitting around the dining table together. The bedrooms and beds were super comfortable. Kitchen has everything you need. Highly recommend this special home.

  • If you have an affinity for the ocean, stay here!!! This home is a 2 story in which the owners live quietly upstairs & rent the first floor. The layout is comfortable for a family, there is a closet full of beach & regular towels, extra sheets & there is plenty of paper goods,etc available. Nancy is an artist & there are her lovely paintings everywhere. Gary is helpful & knowledgeable of area & steered us on great directions for things to do & where to eat. Our favorite part of the place was the openness & proximity to the ocean-being able to hear the sound of the ocean, day & night was incredible. Sunsets were amazing, too This is a gem of a place.

  • Spent a week here, wonderful place to stay. We will book here again for next trip, spent time in Pebble Beach, Carmel, Napa Valley and San Francisco all based form this location. The view from the house is like no other and surpassed all expectations. Nancy and Gary were gracious and helpful when we had questions.   • Amazing experience The house met all of my expectations. The view off the back porch is unbelievable. The kitchen/dining/living area is huge and lined with window panels that look out onto the ocean. You will feel like you are in paradise. I proposed to my girlfriend on the cliffs behind the house and followed that up with some of us staying in the house for the night. It is a great place for a group of people with a lot of room to hang out. I can't say enough about how great Gary & Nancy are. They were extremely accommodating and hospitable. Working with great people makes the experience that much better. I can't wait to go back!

  • Fantastic ocean front retreat I've stayed at this rental twice now. The kitchen is a cook's dream. Fully equipped to put together dinner parties for you and your friends. The bedrooms are well appointed and comfortable. The master bath even has a steam / sauna! The ocean front view is simply amazing. I sat on the deck on New Years day sipping coffee watching a pod of dolphins swim north. Nothing can beat that. The owners are super nice and accommodating. I look forward to staying a third time!

  • Amazing views, wonderful stay I stayed for 2 nights with my husband, daughter and her boyfriend. We walked in, saw the ocean view, and knew this was a special place. Gary and Nancy were helpful and gracious hosts and the home had everything we needed . Every room was cozy and comfortable and we loved the art. Such a wonderful spot for our family to relax. We are well traveled but I don't think we have ever stayed in a place with a more beautiful view of the coast! Breathtaking! We are already thinking of when we can return....and we will!

  • At the beach without sand in your food Charming house with a beautiful view from a bluff overlooking the ocean. Open the back doors and listen to the waves while you eat your breakfast. It is as if you are sitting on the beach - but without having to get any sand in your food! Very functionally equipped for cooking and relaxing.

  • Beautiful home, owners, and experience The pictures don't do justice to this amazing piece of property! It was absolutely breathtaking! The home was appointed very nicely, and the perfect setting for a gathering of friends or family. When it was planned, I assumed it was a one time thing, but there is no doubt that I will go back. We had six adults in the house, and we all were quite comfortable, in the three spacious bedrooms, and two bathrooms. Two of us even took advantage of the shower/steam room, with a glass of wine of course. Walking distance to the lighthouse, restaurants, the beach…it doesn't get much better than this!

  • Great Base Camp for Bay Area and Beyond! Simply put, the view from the deck is nothing less than poetic. Bluff, check. Crashing waves, check. Quiet beach, check. Oh, let's throw in a lighthouse attached to the beach. We rented the main portion of the house and it had plenty of room for our group of 6 (Ages 16 - 49). It was well stocked and equipped. Gary and Nancy were great hosts and helped with suggestions. Every day we woke up to a choice between the city and the local coast. We would ponder the question while walking Devils Slide, an old stretch of Hwy 1 that was converted into a trail/park (walks for me, runs for my teen and college kids). San Francisco is about 30 minutes away, Santa Cruz is an hour south, Carmel 2 hours south, and there were too many local beaches to visit within the week. We even visited Armstrong Redwood Reserve north of San Francisco. We would definitely recommend this rental for families. Amazing vacation.

  • Best View EVER! We stayed for a quick 2-day mid-week retreat after working in the city. The house was such a breath of fresh air after negotiating San Francisco and staying in hotels for a week. Gary was always available whenever we had questions. He met us minutes after we arrived. We had an amazing ocean front chat about local attractions and places to eat...the view was so enchanting I think I missed part of the conversation (thanks to the sharp eared other half for catching the details haha). Gary and Nancy were very flexible and accommodating. I just have to thank them for one of the best vacations I have ever had. Kitchen...AMAZING, view...AMAZING, comfortable beds...AMAZING, location...AMAZING, flexible friendly owners...AMAZING. We had our friends over for dinner, and even though it was dark, we were drawn to the patio because of the sounds of the ocean. It was private, but still super close to Half Moon Bay. I am booking 7 days for my family summer vacation tonight! I've found my new Bay Area retreat, I won't stay anywhere else. Thank you Gary and Nancy! See you soon...Crystal

  • Stunning sunsets, incredible ocean views This was the perfect place for a special family weekend… Conveniently located close to shops and restaurants, yet you feel like you're far away because there are expansive ocean views from the entire living/kitchen area. Stunning sunsets! And if you love watching wildlife, you'll be in heaven. We were lucky enough to see a pod of dolphins swim past, awesome formations of pelicans (literally 100's at a time), and lots of whale spouts. There's plenty of sleeping space, and it was such a joy to cook in the wonderful kitchen. Thank you, Gary & Nancy, for all your kindness, for sharing your gem of a house, and for helping to make this a weekend we'll never forget.

  • Classic California Coast! We rented this house for a family get together. Nancy and Garry were very welcoming, gave us local advice, and made sure we had everything we needed. The views from the kitchen, living areas and deck are phenomenal. The kitchen is perfect for group cooking, love those two large sinks. Some VRBOs only have the bare necessities, but this house included the little things, there were spices and basic condiments in the kitchen and baskets of assorted toiletries in the bathrooms. There are so many things to do near the house. We visited the harbor, the marine reserve, Purisima creek regional park, downtown Half Moon Bay, and the local beaches.

  • Amazing stay oceanside I was looking for a relaxing, oceanfront property to rent for my family to get together for a rare week together. This property surpassed all of my very high expectations. The view was amazing and the house was top notch. Gary and Nancy were very welcoming, and quickly became like family. They made extra effort, however, to make sure we had our privacy. The location really is amazing (the photographs do not do it justice!). There were great running trails close by and great places to eat, as well as a lighthouse within walking distance (which my nephew loved). We were considering one of the local oceanfront hotels, but after experiencing true relaxation at this property we will be back many times in the future. There really is nothing like this place out there that I have experienced.

  • We stayed at this property while attending golf's 2012 US Open. The house was perfect! The owners live on the property which is not a problem as they respect your privacy, but are very friendly and accommodating when needed. The house is absolutely gorgeous and the location, which its spectacular views and easy access to San Francisco and all those beautiful little seaside towns south of San Fran, makes it an ideal spot. We would not hesitate returning when and if our vacation schedule allows us back to that area.

  • Awesome view of Ocean! This place is wonderful! Stayed here a week, our annual Sister Trip and had a simply wonderful stay. Great views of the ocean from so many rooms, it was so peaceful, relaxing and exhilarating all at the same time. Each bed was so comfortable and that steam shower - Oh Boy, what a treat. You are so convenient to visit up and down the coast and to San Francisco as well. Many great places to eat nearby, one was our favorite for breakfast and lunch - Gherkin's Sandwich Shop. Huge portions and we loved everything we tried. If you are looking at this place for your stay - I say do it, reserve it. We were all so very happy we did.

  • What a great experience! My fiancé & I rented this home for the few days before our wedding on the coast. It is everything that is shown on this site and more! Nancy greeted us and gave us information about the home and usage as well as showing us there was plenty of dishes/silverware for our large group. We had a dinner event for our family which was about 30 people and then brunch the day after the wedding. There was plenty of room for everyone & it was wonderful that we could open the sliding glass doors and people could flow out onto the deck with the wonderful ocean view. We will definitely stay here again even if we're not having a large group for meals!

  • Absolutely Dreamy! Our family had a marvelous experience staying in this home. My first reaction upon entering is that the pictures, even the video do not do justice to the serene setting, the decor, etc., it's absolutely magical! The furnishings, linens, bedding are all very comfortable, clean, and inviting - very conducive to family time. The steam shower is wonderful, the kitchen open and well equipped, the bedrooms very nice. We even took family pictures on the deck! Gary and Nancy are great to work with, their communication is exceptional. We enjoyed the house so much we did very little away though there is plenty of shopping and such within a reasonable distance. I would highly recommend this house year round. We'd made wonderful memories there!

  • Gorgeous Retreat Setting for Couple or Team Nestled between the ocean and Hwy 1 on top of a tall bluff overlooking the ocean, this property comes complete with everything you'd ever want... a gorgeous view out of every window, beautiful art displayed on the walls, an amazing kitchen, comfortable beds, a steam room and wonderful nearby places for long walks on the beach. Breathtaking views abound. You are so close to the ocean it's almost like being on a cruise ship... All you see is ocean when you look out the large west facing windows. You are also not too far from Redwoods. A car ride down Hwy 1 is another amazing way to spend a couple of hours if you can ever get yourself to venture outside the comfy abode. An added bonus is it's so close to San Francisco airport for easy access when you land and/or to visit the city for a day of sightseeing. Nancy and Gary were wonderful hosts... helpful in every way, but gave us space. I highly recommend this property as a gorgeous getaway for a couple or a team retreat.

  • Beautiful house and great ocean views We walked in and the back of the house has a wall of sliding doors with the ocean just beyond. What a view! The dining table is situated so that it is right in front of the full ocean views so where else would we want to eat? We ordered take out from the Peruvian restaurant and the sandwich shop (Gherkins) and basically had most of our meals at the table. We had 5 adults in our group and the house layout was just right. 2 bedrooms share a jack and jill bathroom. This bathroom also has the sauna in the shower. These two bedrooms are private other than the shared bathroom. Then there is a hall bath with double sinks. The third bedroom (fireplace room) can share this bathroom with anyone who may be sleeping on the sofa bed (which is wonderfully close to the ocean!) There are privacy screens for the sofa bed. One suggestion (and there may be reasons for not doing this) is that I would love to have screens on a few of the sliding doors so that we could open the doors all the way and get the full ocean breeze. You just can't get much closer to the ocean than this house and we really hope to visit again! PS Watch the video!

  • A blissful place to find peace, inspiration, healing No matter difficult life might be, the beauty of this house and its setting will restore your equilibrium and rejuvenate your spirits. The homeowners are two people whose combined imagination incorporated features of practical elegance into every inch of this light-filled haven. Dishwasher, large and small (undercounter) refrigerators, top grade gas range, standard and deep sinks, deeply comfortable sofas, elegant dining table and smaller-scaled counter leaf for less formal sit-downs, color palette throughout is warm earth and ocean blues and greens, hand- painted wall murals. Star-gaze (full moon views from the deck are exceptional!), birdwatch (pelicans love to fly by), walk to the historic lighthouse, explore the tide pools of the cove next door, plop down on the beach or hike up nearby Montara Mountain. For eats, grill catch-of- the day fish available from the local fleet, steam vegetables (artichokes are plentiful) or scarf down sweet strawberries from bounteous neighborhood farms; venture a few minutes south on scenic coastal Highway 1, past a great surfing hang-out, to sophisticated but easy- going Half Moon Bay's boutiques, bookstores, art and craft galleries, antique shops, bakeries, coffee shops and a full range of restaurants. Or, just hibernate to the sound of the ocean from the warmth and comfort of this unique house.

  • Gorgeous and Enchanting, abundant! Our week's stay was for an annual family reunion among sisters with their adult children. We were seeking a place on the ocean, yet close to San Francisco. This home is close to the airport and easily accessible to San Fancisco. It was very easy to find our way around and we enjoyed time in the vineyards in the north; the redwoods; the zoo; to Chinatown; south to Carmel and the wildlife preserves. We also spent time at the light house while exploring the ocean and shoreline below. We loved the local restaurant reccommendations provided by the Nancy and Gary. The home was perfect for our family dinners; evenings filled with talking, catching up or reading. The house was gorgeous, yet very comfortable and inviting. The kitchen is well stocked and has everything you could possibly need. The bedrooms were comfortable and provided restful sleep. Tastefully decorated and clean. The yard was beautiful. The view was breath taking with gorgeous sunsets; ocean and shoreline wildlife were abundant. The sound and beauty of the waves was peaceful and relaxing. We couldn't have asked for a more picture-perfect view and surroundings. A wide variety of restaurants and activities is close by. We all came seeking time to enjoy each while also having some peace and quiet time. This home and location provided it all. Everyone had a wonderful stay and we left feeling refreshed and relaxed. It was a memorable stay. We were so grateful for the list of restaurants provided. They gave us helpful directions. The pictures only begin to reveal the beauty of the home and its surroundings. We were in awe upon our arrival at the beauty and warmth of the home. We had a welcome note which greeted us on the counter with all kinds of helpful information on the home and surrounding area. Everything was clean and up to date (trust me we are quite particular on this). We had no complaints. I would highly recommend this home.

  • Breathtaking Bluff, Phenomenal Photography This truly aesthetic accommodation sits on a spectacular bluff overlooking not only the pounding ocean but a romantic old Pacific lighthouse that, at sunset, creates an oriental-like silhouette against the most splendid palette of sky. I meditated through my lens, catching spewing surf caught in a midair rainbows and wildflowers parading the cliffside. The tiny town is within walking distance to chat with locals over coffee, but there is no reason to leave the enchantment of the home itself with three bedrooms, two baths, a fabulous kitchen and a sunroom from which one can take in the entire Pacific. The hosts, Nancy and Gary, are the component that tops all else. The love they have put into this property is tangible in all they do. They are truly artists of life ready to sculpt a not-to-be forgotten experience for their guests.

  • Unbelievable dream stay! If you are looking to have a very comfortable stay with breath taking views and privacy in Half Moon Bay or anywhere in the bay area then this is a great place to pick. Both Gary & Nancy are very friendly and welcoming, I stayed for long weekend with my girlfriend and we got to see some of the most amazing sunsets ever (and we do travel a lot). The house is spacious and beautifully done and the independent room is also good size with very comfortable bed and very nice bathroom (as shown in the video, do check it out). If you are lucky, you may even see some whales jumping in the ocean from the back porch/deck. I highly recommend staying here

  • Relax in luxury, an art/beach lover's paradise The first thing that strikes you when you enter this house, is the fact that every inch of it is a work of art. From the wall murals to the gorgeous view of the coast, to the state of the art kitchen(s), the saddest thing about your vacation is that you will have to leave this vacation spot. My bed was so comfortable, I might not have gotten up out of it if it weren't for the sound of the waves just outside my window, beckoning to enjoy the day. Wonderful restaurants within walking distance, friendly locals, and fabulous hosts. Half Moon Bay is a wonderfully kept secret, just 20 minutes from San Francisco.

  • Excellent Experience! Over the past years, I have stayed at this beautiful coastal home in Montara many times. I find myself recommending it to friends and local visitors as a jewel in this seaside area. The views are incredible, the accomodations cozy and lovely. It is a great place to gather for a conference or a relaxing stay. Nancy and Gary are gracious and thoughtful and make you truly like their place is your own. Don't miss a chance to see the coastside in its true splendor and style.

  • Paradise! My family and I absolutely loved this place, it has been more the 6 months since we stayed there and I have such fond memories of our stay there. It is very clean, very tranquil, very relaxing, the views are absolutely spectacular. The owners are a joy to deal with and wonderful people. I would absolutely stay there again, as a matter of fact writing this review makes me long to go back.
